A last-minute flight change may be possible, but it is not guaranteed. The cited guidance says rebooking may not be allowed or may incur additional fees, subject to the fare rules of the ticket. Some fares also limit or exclude the right to change or cancel a reservation.
What determines whether the booking can be changed?
The fare conditions attached to the specific ticket matter. Travellers should not assume that every booking can be changed simply because the departure is still some distance away.
Before treating a booking as changeable, the booking owner should verify:
- Whether the fare permits a change
- Whether the right to change or cancel is limited or excluded
- Whether any additional fees apply
- Whether a suitable replacement flight is available
What must still be confirmed?
The available guidance does not state a universal last-minute deadline, a fixed change fee or a guarantee that another flight will be available. Those points must be confirmed for the individual booking before the traveller relies on making a change.
